Faces of Dementia

I think I’ve forgotten something today… Oh that’s right! Today is World Alzheimer’s Day and a fantastic opportunity to take part in or find out about upcoming Memory Walks in locations across the UK.
The Alzheimer’s Society is using this day as an opportunity to raise awareness about this worldwide issue and try to raise funds for care for people suffering from dementia.

Alzheimer’s Disease is a progressive brain disease which leads to dementia, an impairment of memory and thinking which can also be caused by other disorders or diseases of the brain, although the most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s Disease. Alzheimer's destroys brain cells and may prove fatal over time. It is most common in the elderly and it is generally not thought of as being hereditary although the chances of developing the disease is increased if a family member has developed early onset Alzheimer’s (under 65). There are currently no cures for Alzheimer’s although a number of treatments have been developed.
