New drug for fibroids

Due to the high prevalence of uterine fibroids a number of effective treatment options are available that include surgical removal (myomectomy), uterine artery embolisation, HIFU and hysterectomy. However, until recently medical management with drugs had only had a limited application. 

In a new article written exclusively for our patient-facing website www.totalhealth.co.uk  Consultant Gynaecologist Mr Ertan Saridogan discusses how new medical treatments are currently being assessed for the treatment of uterine fibroids. He looks specifically at the latest selective progesterone receptor modulators (SPRMs), which due to their improved performance profiles may become an alternative to surgery for some patients.
