Mr Kitchen was fundamental in bringing the Gamma Knife Service to Queen Square and has been involved in the continuing development of this remarkably effective technology. Mr Kitchen has a long track record in image directed neurosurgery in all its forms with his studies and papers widely published.

Specialist in treating brain tumours

Mr Kitchen’s specialist interests include brain metastases, cavernomas, trigeminal neuralgia and skull base surgery. Mr Kitchen has been the UK’s 'Neurosurgical Exam Board Chairman' and recently completed his two year tenure as President of the Society of British Neurological Surgeons.

The Gamma Knife Service

As the lead Consultant for Queen Square, Mr Kitchen continues to head the Intracranial Stereotactic Radiosurgery Gamma Knife Service. The service continues to grow every year and has become one of the most preeminent services for the effective treatment of intracranial lesions and brain tumours.

Experience

Mr. Kitchen, a consultant Neurosurgeon over 25 years, continues to provide strong clinical guidance in the subspecialism of neuro-oncology and skull base surgery service at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery  (University College Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), as well as directing The Gamma Knife Service.

CARE Study

Mr Kitchen is Co-Chief Investigator of the UK wide on-going Cavernomas: A Randomised effectiveness (CARE) study. This research study aims to determine the best approach for treating people with a brain cavernon leading to stroke or epileptic seizure.
