Treating kidney cancer with CyberKnife®

CyberKnife®, an innovative treatment for cancers of the kidneys, is a non-invasive radiosurgery technique.

CyberKnife® technology is able to target tumours accurately and deliver radiation with sub-millimetre precision, making it possible to give a large radiation dose, lethal to the tumour, with little risk to the surrounding tissues and minimal side effects.

Renal cancers cannot be treated with chemotherapy and usually require large doses of radiation to be removed; this form of therapy is thereby limited by the dose the surrounding tissues can tolerate. The ability of CyberKnife® to focus radiation solely on the tumour is hugely beneficial in this case.

CyberKnife® treatment normally takes an hour and is given in up to five treatments. It can be used as an alternative to invasive surgery.
