trachelectomy

Surgical removal of the cervix of the uterus (womb).

tracheobronchitis

Inflammation of the windpipe (trachea) and any of the main airways beyond the trachea that have cartilage in their walls (bronchi).

tracheostomy

A surgical hole in the trachea, created to ease breathing.

trachoma

A persistent infectious disease of the cornea and conjunctiva in the eye.

An unsaturated fatty acid molecule.

transient global amnesia

A sudden, temporary (less than 6 hours) but dramatic memory loss for recent events without other neurological symptoms. The cause is unknown but it is linked with a history of migraine.

transient ischaemic attack

Any neurological problem caused by an interruption in the blood supply to the brain that resolves within 24 hours. Abbreviated to TIA.

Over or through the gullet (oesophagus).

transthoracic

Over or through the chest (thorax).

transurethral resection of the prostate

A procedure to shave away some of an enlarged prostate, which eases pressure from the prostate on the urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder.

trauma

A physical injury or emotionally painful event.

tremor

Shaking or trembling due to involuntary muscle movements.

treponema

A microscopic, bacterial organism.

trichiasis

An alteration in the direction of eyelash growth, in which the lashes grow inwards towards the eyeball.

trichomonal

Caused by the parasiteTrichomona Vaginalis.

trichomoniasis

An infection caused by the organism trichomonas vaginalis.

trichotillomania

A psychological condition characterised by compulsive hair pulling.

trigeminal nerve

nerve arising from the brainstem.

trigeminal neuralgia

A disorder of the trigeminal nerve, which supplies sensation to the face.

triglyceride

A type of fat in the bloodstream, formed from the digestion of fat in the diet.

trimester

A period of three months often used to describe the stage of pregnancy, where there are three - first, second and third trimesters.

trochanteric bursitis

A common problem of inflammation and pain to the outside of the hip.
