Mr Simon Owen-Johnstone, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Owen-Johnstone is a specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon working in private practice at the London Bridge Hospital in central London.

He specialises in problems affecting the upper limb: shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands. His practice treats patients, often using the latest advances in keyhole surgeryA type of minimally invasive surgery., with all problems arising from the fingertips to the collarbone including problems with joints, skin, bones, muscles, tendons and nervesBundles of fibres that carry information in the form of electrical impulses..

Mr Owen-Johnstone qualified in Medicine from the University of Leicester before undertaking training at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. His higher surgical training in orthopaedics was carried out on the Barts and the London hospital rotation where he trained in hospitals such as the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He received a National Fellowship to the St Andrews Centre for Plastic Surgery, Essex where he studied further.

    In this article I am going to talk about some of the things that can make our shoulders hurt and what sort of things to expect if you visit a shoulder Surgeon. I won’t include fresh injuries here.

    Don’t forget, even though you consult a shoulder Surgeon, the chances are that you won’t actually need an operation! Most of my work doesn’t involve surgery. It’s best to think of a Surgeon as a Shoulder Specialist who can also operate if needed.
