Miss Samantha Tross consults at the Ealing Hospital NHS Trust.

Samantha Tross is one of only a few female Orthopaedic Surgeons practising in England. She graduated from University College London in 1992. Her surgical training was obtained at a number of London Teaching hospitals including St. Georges Hospital, The Royal London and Guys & St Thomas's. She also received Fellowship training overseas at world renowned centres in Toronto, Canada and Sydney, Australia, gaining further experience in Primary and Revision Hip and Knee Replacement, Computer assisted Arthroplasty, Hip Resurfacing and Knee arthroscopyInspection through an endoscope of the interior of a joint.. More recently she has trained in Hip Arthroscopy. 

Miss Tross is also actively involved in teaching and is currently an Examiner for medical school finals for Imperial College London. She is also involved in running Basic Surgical Skills Courses in Africa in conjunction with the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.

Miss Tross is a Member of the British Hip Society and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Case Reports.

Personal treatment philosophy: Treat the patient as well as the pathology, with an emphasis on the delivery of high quality and efficient care.

    Hip replacement surgery remains an exciting and constantly advancing branch of Orthopaedic Surgery. With people living longer, partaking in more extreme activities and expecting to lead an active life well into their later years, it is important to provide them with high performing implants which can be adapted to suit their specific needs. It is equally important to monitor the implants once inserted. This is currently relevant in light of the recent scandal with PIP breast implants. The National Joint Registry of England and Wales (NJR) was set up in 2003 to do just that.

    Historically most surgery of the hip joint in the adult has been for the treatment of hip arthritisInflammation of one or more joints of the body..  However, the cause and development (pathophysiology) of hip arthritis is now far better understood and treatment emphasis is now shifting away from total hip replacement towards the prevention and/or delay of hip arthritis. Until we find the ultimate cure we will need to continue to replace diseased and worn out hips.
