Is London the healthcare capital of the world? The NHS and the British sense of humour will be part of the central theme for the London Olympics 2012 opening ceremony, Director Danny Boyle has revealed. The British sense of fun, combined with our intrinsic willingness to want to care for others are what makes “The Isles of Wonder” unique.
The NHS is the biggest employer in Europe and so on this basis alone, Boyle is probably right. Where health is concerned, London and the UK are world leaders, and underpinning much of this is the national passion for ‘caring’. It is due to our fundamental commitment to the NHS that the UK is also home to some of the best researchers, biggest health organisations, charities, pharmaceutical companies and other major healthcare suppliers. If anywhere is, London probably is the healthcare capital of the world.
