The London Breast Institute's leading breast cancer expert Professor Kefah Mokbel welcomes the results from a recently published study in the New England Journal of Medicine. 'We need more data from ongoing clinical trials prior to making definite recommendations. However bisphosphonatesA family of drugs that prevent the break down of bone by cells called osteoclasts. such as zoledronic acid should be recommended in women receiving endocrine therapy for breast cancer if they have osteopenia or osteoporosisA condition resulting in brittle bones due to loss of bony tissue.'
