Drinking coffee reduces risk of cancer in the over 50’s

Research conducted in Sweden and published today in the Journal of Breast Cancer suggests that drinking five cups of coffee a day can help to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women aged over 50. The research involved 5000 women over the age of 50, half of whom had breast cancer. Their levels of coffee consumption was investigated and it was discovered that those women who drank more than five cups of coffee each day had a 20 per cent reduced risk of getting breast cancer. When they were screened for the rarer form of the disease, ER negative, the reduced risk increased to over 50 per cent.
